Shawshank Redemption

The movie and the story are based on the same exact plot. They are almost exactly the same. The movie did a great job in depicting the short story. The slight difference in the two is that in the movie Andy drops the gun when he sees his wife cheating on him. In the story, Andy goes and throws it in a river. The rest of the film is the same. Red is the narrator of both the film and the movie. He gets Andy whatever Andy needs. Andy gets a rock hammer and he gets a poster of Marilyn Monroe. Andy is in prison for the same reason and he gets out in the same way. The story also ends in Red reading Andy's note and finding him, as the film also does.

Red is the narrator in the film and he almost says word for word what the story says. He explains how Andy got to Shawshank and also how he got their. The movie is also first and second person, like the short story is. It is almost Red and Andy talking the whole time. In the movie, you get to see Andy's character come to life and the director does a great job in keeping him close to the Andy in the story. Red is the exact is exactly how you would think he would sound and Morgan Freeman does a great job.

There are some minor differences in the Andy in the story and the Andy in the film. Andy in the story is short and has "glasses". Red pretty much descibes him as a quiet, nerdy looking guy. In the film, Andy is a tall guy without glasses. He is a pretty good size and does not look nerdy at all. He is very quiet in both the works, but that is the only thing that is the same about the appearance. Red is a good size black man in both the film and the original story.

The film and the story both take place in a Federal prison called Shawshank. It is a prison in Maine and it is high security. Andy goes to prison for the same crime. He is also innocent in both the film and the story. Red is not innocent and he admits what he does at the beginning, in both works. The setting of the film and all the same as the story. It is the story coming to life in a film.

The theme is get from the story is a little different from the theme i get from the story. The theme i got from the story is that the law sometimes gets it wrong. The themes could be the same, but I also get a different one from the film. I got that the corrupt eventually get what they deserve. I also got that the good find a way to use the bad to prove there innocence and become free. Andy uses the bad to get money and to escape from prison. The wardon tries breaking the rules to get what he wants out of Andy. He eventually kills himself before he gets arrested.

Shawshank Redemption

This story is about two men in Shawshank prison. One man is black and his name is Red. He is the man in prison that can get you whatever you want. He says, "I'm the guy that can get it for you"(15). The other man is Andy and he is in prison for murdering his wife and her lover. Red goes on to tell you that Andy is really innocent and that he is one of the few in that prison that is. Andy goes on day after day just keeping to himself. He runs into trouble with a group called the "girls". He ends up doing the wardon's taxes and books because he was a banker before he came to prison. Andy and Red become real good friends throughout there time at Shawshank. Andy ends up digging his way out of prison and escapes.

The story is told by Red throughout the time he and Andy were in Shawshank. It has some first person and second person point of view in it. I think the author wanted to tell the story in the eyes of someone that had been there awhile. Red has been in there since he was twenty years old. He then became friends with Andy, when Andy came in 1948. The reason for writing the story was to write about Andy, but he wanted Red to tell it. I do not think anyone else could tell the story like he did.

Red is a black man. He is a good size man, but he is aging in his life sentence. Andy, on the other hand is short and he is white. Red descibes him as being a, "neat little man with sandy hair and small, clever hands" (17). He also goes on to say that he wears glasses and that his nails are always trimmed. Andy is a quiet man and he acts like a business man because he was a banker before going to prison. Red is a talkative person who was really inviting to Andy and they became friends pretty quickly. Red tells the whole story and it is all about Andy. Andy is a very smart man and it helps him thorughout his time at Shawshank.

The setting takes place in Shawshank prison in Maine. It takes place in the late forty's and fifty's. The story rearely exceed the walls of the prison. Red and Andy are both in for murdering their wives. The only difference is that Andy is innocent and Red admits that he did it. They are both serving long sentences and Red ends up getting out. Andy takes a different road and he escapes by digging through the wall. He digs out with only a rock hammer. They both become really good friends and find each other after they are both out. Andy even left him a letter with directions at the end of the story (105).

This story could have many different themes. It could be that our justice system does not always get it right. It could also be that a man can accomplish the impossible if he is determined enough. Andy proves both of these themes. He was wrongly convicted of a crime that he did not do. He also dug through a solid concrete wall with only a small rock hammer. There also could be other themes, but these are the themes I think most reflect this story.

Sonnet 130

Shakespeare is telling the reader about his lover. He is making it sound like the woman he is describing is ugly, but in fact it is the exact opposite. The woman he is describing is the most beautiful woman in Shakespears eys and he loves her. He understands that she is not perfect, but no one is. He descrides the woman by saying, "My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun; Coral is far more red than her lips;..." (Lines 1-2). He is saying that her eyes are not like the sun, but no ones eyes is like the sun. He also goes on to say, "And yet, by heaven, I think my love is rare..." (Line 13). He is telling us that he loves her even if she is not perfect as the things he is describing.
This message is very true. There are many beautiful women in the world that do not have the physical features that Shakepeare describes. Women have many different eye colors, skin colors, hair colors, and they do not fly. They are human and they are beautiful no matter what some of their features are. Some examples of women that look nothing like what he is describing and still are good looking are: Eva Longoria, Beyonce, Kate Hudson, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston. All of those women have different features and different ethnicities, but they are all very beautiful. Some are black, some are white, and some are hispanic. Their skin is not white as snow and their eyes are not anything like the sun. This is why Sonnet 130 holds true.

Breakeven by The Script fits the jealous sweethearts ballad. It talks about how a guy lost his girlfrind. He says that when someone gets their heart broken, that it hurts one more than the other. He is telling the story through the lyrics. The song explains how this guy feels deep down inside. He is also is jealous for two reasons. One is that she is happy and he is not. The other is that some other guy has her love and that he does not anymore.

THE SCRIPT LYRICS
"Breakeven"

I'm still alive but I'm barely breathing
Just prayin' to a god that I don't believe in
Cos I got time while she got freedom
Cos when a heart breaks no it don't break even

Her best days will be some of my worst
She finally met a man that's gonna put her first
While I'm wide awake she's no trouble sleeping
Cos when a heart breaks no it don't breakeven... even... no

What am I supposed to do when the best part of me was always you,
And what am I supposed to say when I'm all choked up that you're ok
I'm falling to pieces, yeah,
I'm falling to pieces

They say bad things happen for a reason
But no wise words gonna stop the bleeding
Cos she's moved on while I'm still grieving
And when a heart breaks no it don't breakeven even... no

What am I gonna to do when the best part of me was always you,
And what am I supposed to say when I'm all choked up that you're ok
I'm falling to pieces, yeah,
I'm falling to pieces, yeah,
I'm falling to pieces
(One still in love while the other ones leaving)
I'm falling to pieces
(Cos when a heart breaks no it don't breakeven)

Oh you got his heart and my heart and none of the pain
You took your suitcase, I took the blame.
Now I'm try'na make sense of what little remains ooh
Cos you left me with no love and no love to my name.

I'm still alive but I'm barely breathing
Just prayin' to a god that I don't believe in
Cos I got time while she got freedom
Cos when a heart breaks no it don't break
No it don't break
No it don't break even no

What am I gonna do when the best part of me was always you and
What am I suppose to say when I'm all choked up that you're ok
(Oh glad your okay now)
I'm falling to pieces yeah
(Oh I'm glad your okay)
I'm falling to pieces yeah
(One still in love while the other ones leaving)
I'm falling to pieces
(Cos when a heart breaks no it don't breakeven)

Oh it don't break even no
Oh it don't break even no
Oh it don't break even no

Hero

Heroes come in many different ways. True heroes are the men and women that fight for our freedom. When I think of a hero, the first thing that comes to mind is a soldier. They put their lives in harms way because no one else wants to. Every single troop is a hero and we all should thank them whenever we get the opportunity.
